Mother Teresa Biography

Mother Teresa is a personification of love, sacrifice, and kindness. She won millions of hearts with her selfless behavior. With her selfless devotion, she proved to the world that love is the cure for every wound and disease. Only with true love, you can any pain inflicted on you by this world.

On, 26 August 1910 in the Ottoman Empire, Macedonia Mother Teresa was born. Her parent’s names were  Nikollë(father) and Dranafile Bojaxhiu(mother), she was the youngest child of the couple. Teresa was only eight years old when her father died. From early childhood, she was fascinated by Missionaries and their selfless works. She always felt that she was sent on Earth to render her service to mankind.

She left her in 1928 at the age of 18 to join Sister of Loreto, Ireland to learn English. In 1929 she arrived in India and started teaching in St.Teresa Convent along with learning Bengali. She taught in many convents and even opened convents to educate children.

It was a message from God that she received on 10 September 1946 that she received a message from God that she has to now leave the convent and live among the poor and serve them. It was this divine message from God that changed her Sister Teresa to Mother Teresa.

She changed her attire from a convent habit to a simple white saree with a blue border. She began her missionary work among the poor in 1948. In her first year, life became really difficult she had to beg for food and supplies and doubted her decision of leaving the comfortable life of the convent.

In,1950 she got permission from Vatican City and established Missionary of Charities with an additional vow, a life of dedication to the care of the poor and the needy.

In 1952 with the help of Calcutta officials she opened “Home of Dying” which was an abode for abandoned people to die a peaceful and respectful death. After this home, she opened Shanti Nagar a house for leprosy patients, which provided food, care, and medications to these people.

Nirmala Sishu Bhavan was opened in 1955 which was an abode for orphans and homeless youth. Her work got noticed by millions of people across the world and funds and other help started to flow in. With the money, she opened houses for leprosy, AIDS, Tuberculosis patients, and orphanages all over India and in other countries also. Her religious charities and devotion broke all borders to spread love among the people.

Through her missionary and charity work, Mother Teressa has helped millions of people all around the world who were living in the worst conditions. She was a bright light which guided us that to get closer to God, we should love and provide service to humankind.

She was given the Noble Peace Prize in 1979 for her selfless service to the poor and needy. She was canonized as Saint Teresa by the Roman Catholic Church in 2016.
